Servings: 4–6 as an appetizer (about 16 pinwheels)
Ingredients:
Puff pastry sheet – 1 sheet (about 250 g), thawed
Sliced ham – 4 oz (115 g), thinly sliced
Shredded cheese – 1 cup (about 100 g, cheddar, Swiss, or mozzarella)
Dijon mustard – 2 tablespoons
Mayonnaise – 1 tablespoon (optional)
Egg – 1 large, beaten
Milk or water – 1 tablespoon
Dried Italian herbs or dried parsley – 1 teaspoon
Garlic powder – ¼ teaspoon (optional)
Freshly ground black pepper – a pinch
Sesame or poppy seeds – 1 teaspoon (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment. Unfold puff pastry on a lightly floured surface or parchment.
Mix Dijon and mayonnaise. Spread evenly over pastry, leaving a ½-inch border on one long edge.
Layer ham slices over the sauce, then sprinkle cheese, herbs, garlic powder, and pepper evenly on top.
Roll up tightly from the long edge, seal the seam, and chill the log for 10–15 minutes to firm up.
Slice into ½–¾ inch pinwheels. Arrange on the baking sheet, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with seeds if using.
Bake 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden. Cool briefly, then serve warm.

Notes

Pro Tip:
Chilling the rolled pastry before slicing keeps the spirals tight and helps the pinwheels bake up tall, flaky, and evenly shaped.
